Every family had the one strand that wouldn't light. You'd plug it in, half the tree would glow, and somebody spent the next twenty minutes twisting big, warm bulbs one at a time until the whole thing finally came alive. Then the garland went on in loose loops, the star went on top, and the living room smelled like pine and the cardboard box the ornaments lived in all year.
This is that tree, rebuilt in chunky pixel art like it loaded off a game cartridge. Old-school bulbs in red, orange, yellow, green and blue, silver garland swooping around the branches, and a gold star that isn't trying too hard. Underneath it, HOLIDAY MODE in red-and-green title-screen lettering.
I made it for the stretch of the year when the to-do list can wait, the couch is spoken for, and somebody has already asked if you want to play one more round. Switch it on and leave it on.
